Bill Buchanan is an academic in expert in cryber security. He leads the Centre for Distributed Computing, Networks and Security at Edinburgh Napier University.
Bill Buchanan is a cyber security expert and academic, working in a number of areas including crypotography, web-based infrastructures, e-Crime, e-Health and mobile computing.
He is a Professor in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University, where he also leads research in the Centre for Distributed Computing, Networks and Security.
He is also head of The Cyber Academy, a Scottish project to provide an independent source of skills and knowledge on cyber security. He works with the Scottish police, finance sector, and a number of businesses.
Buchanan has three cyber security companies based on his research work: ZoneFox, Symphonic Software and Cyan Forensics. He is also a co-author of several patents.
Buchanan earned his PhD from Napier University. He has published a large number of academic books and articles, speaks at academic conferences, and is a media commentator on technology and computing. He is a fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
