Barry Silbert is a blockchain entrepreneur and invester. He is the Founder & CEO of Digital Currency Group, a venture capital firm focused on the digital currency market.
After being introduced to bitcoin in 2012, Barry Silbert became an active investor in the blockchain space, providing seed funding for early-stage bitcoin companies such as Coinbase, Ripple and BitPay. He went on to create the Bitcoin Investment Trust, the first publicly traded bitcoin fund.
In 2015 Silbert founded Digital Currency Group (DCG). A venture capital firm focused on the digital currency market, DCG builds, incubates and seeds bitcoin and blockchain technology-related companies. Silbert serves as DCG's CEO and is also CEO of subsidiary company Greyscale, which manages the Bitcoin Investment Trust.
Prior to founding Digital Currency Group, Silbert founded SecondMarket, a trading exchange for private company stock. SecondMarket was sold to NASDAQ in 2015.
Previously, Silbert was an investment banker at Houlihan Lokey. He holds a BBA in Finance from the Goizueta Business School of Emory University.
